Behind The Barcode
Once upon a campaign, I wrote the taglines. Now I’m dissecting them.
Lies We Bought is what happens when a lifelong marketer finally turns the camera around and starts questioning the industry she helped build. After more than a decade writing for finance, wellness, wine, and lifestyle brands, I realized that some of the stories we were selling weren’t just clever. They were cultural. They shaped what we eat, wear, believe, and even how we measure success.
This project is part confession, part cultural commentary, and part love letter to the golden age of advertising. Because let’s be honest, no one does manipulation quite as beautifully as a mid-century ad man. But behind the charm and the jingles, there’s a psychology that still drives everything we consume today.
Lies We Bought pulls those myths into the light with humor, nostalgia, and just enough skepticism to make you question your morning routine. It’s not about guilt. It’s about awareness. The goal isn’t to cancel the past, but to understand how we got here and to laugh a little along the way.
They sold it. We bought it. Now we’re unpacking it.
